Frankenstein Ch 15 & 16 questions.

1. Do you think the monster had other realistic options for dealing with his feelings of isolation and anger?

  • No not really. He was oblivious to everything around him & he didnt know how to speak or read, so it would be a good idea to stick around so he has this knowledge.

    2. Up until this point there has been much "coincidence" that has lead the monster to Victor, for example, his finding Victor’s journal and happening to run into William in the woods. Mary Shelley has been criticized for relying too much on coincidence to advance the plot of this novel. Do you agree or disagree with this criticism? Explain your opinion.
  • Um yes & no. The story works, it all comes along together so why not? but then again that is a strange coincedence.

    3. Do you think Victor will comply with the monster’s request? Why or why not?
  • i think that he will in time. he seems to understand that the monster is lonely & needs a companion.

    4. Do you think Victor should comply with the monster’s request? Why or why not?
  • yes, like i said everyone needs someone to be there for them, even a monster. maybe she can help him to change his evil ways.

    5. Do you think the monster is guilty of murder? Why or why not.
  • yes i do. even though the monster doesnt really know any better, he still knows right & wrong.

    6. Do you think that Victor is partly responsible for William’s death? If no, why not. If yes, what should be his punishment?
  • no i dont. i think it is his fault for leaving the monster becuase he was scared, but he should have taken care of him & it might not have ever happened if he was there.

    7. At this point in the book, do you think the monster is truly a monster? Explain your answer.
  • um no i dont think so. somethings he does are monstrous, but every murderer starts out a good human being. they all have it in them to be good, he just is lost right now. i feel for him in a way.

    8. Do you excuse any of the monster’s actions because he was neglected by Victor and treated in such a cruel manner by other humans?
  • sometimes yes. he didnt get to grow up & learn about all these morals & values that other humans did. he doesnt fully understand.

    9. Would you excuse another human being for his or her violent actions because he or she was previously neglected, abused, bullied or otherwise victimized? Why or why not.
  • sometimes it can play a huge part in how you feel about what happened, but i geuss theres always excuses you just have to pay for your actions.

    10. Do you think that Mary Shelley intended this novel to be critical of mankind’s scientific advancements? What kind of a statement do you believe she might be making?
  • i think she just made subjects broader & about things other than the usual.

Jobshadow.

On Wednesday Febuary 11, 2009 I went to San Francisco for jobshadowing day. I went with Bethany to a clothing boutique called White Label. We know the owner, her name is Tania. What we did was help her around the store, like helped with the customers & put some clothes back onto the racks.
One thing i loved about the store was not only the clothes, but they had a huge projector & she played fashion shows. It was really exciting. It made me think of how much i love fashion & how i cant wait to go to school & start my career.
Also Bethany & I love SF, we love the big city & just driving around to see the different things. The owner Tania took us to lunch. It was a little place 2 buildings down called La Bolange, it was right on Union St. It was so cute cuase we were just sitting eating our food at this little shop & it was pooring rain! They had organic things like breads & teas, it was very good. On the way out we hit 5 o'clock traffic & that was terrible. We need to learn how to time our driving so were not always going to be late.
Overall, it was a great day & a good experience!

Cloning.

Do you think there are any positive uses for cloning either animals or humans or both? What are some of the possible negative ramifications of cloning?
  • Um . . . No, i dont think that there is any positive uses for cloning. Animals & humans can always reproduce & have more babies so why would we clone. And also, i would not want another person running around with the same dna as me becuase what if they commit a crime and i am found guilty, when i really didnt do it. So, no i dont not think this is a positive use of time or money. The only thing i would use a cloning machine on is clong extinct animals!

Presidents inauguration.

Do you think that having an African American president will have any impact on our country?
  • Yes, i think things will really start to change in our country, & i dont know if its going to be for the better or worse. The biggest issue were going to face is him being the first non-white president & this will make all the white supremicists really mad. But i personally think it is immature. You dont choose what race you get to be. And why is it such a big deal. I mean there have been many leaders in our country of different race.

Do you think that having an African American president will have any impact on your personally?

  • No, i dont think so. It might affect me how other people think about the situation. Like if someone is being immature & doesnt know what their talking about. When & if i have children, i do not think it will affect me personally. I will teach my children how to accept everyone for who they are & not what their race is. Maybe in the future when i have kids there will be more non-white preisdents.
